Oliver Cornelius Dobbs, Sr.
Biographical Sketch On The Life Of O.C. Dobbs Oliver C. Dobbs was born in Coosa
County, Ala., April 29, 1875; He was married twice. His first wife was
Susie B. McCaleb who died, and then he married Annie B. Burleson. He
fathered ten children. He was baptized by
Virgil E. Randolph in 1896. He began preaching in Tuscaloosa County,
Alabama in 1902. He attended Nashville Bible School studying under the
tutelage of David Lipscomb and
James A. Harding. Some of the places he
preached were Winters, Texas, 1903; Fayette, Alabama; and Birmingham,
Alabama. He was involved in some religious debates: Dobbs-Roberson,
Primitive Baptist; Dobbs-Self, Methodist; Dobbs-Raburn. He did radio
work in Greenville, Alabama and Bessemer, Alabama. In his life he
supported himself while preaching by farming and in the early 50s
manufacturing the Famous Dobbs Truss. In the 1952 issue of Preachers of
Today he stated, "I am now, as you will see, past seventy-seven and am
more active in thought than I was in my younger days,I can preach with
more ease than ever before. I have never compromised TRUTH with error; I
never expect to."
Location of Grave O.C. Dobbs
is buried in Fayette County, Alabama in the New River Church of Christ
Cemetery. It is about 10 miles
southeast of Winfield, and about 10 miles due east of Fayette. The closest
township is the little community of Hubbertville about 3 mile northwest.
