John V.
Copeland, Jr.
1911-1990

John
V. Copeland, Jr. was born in Lowndes County, Georgia, Nov. 18, 1911. He was
baptized by J.E. Boyd in 1923. He married Inelle Barker, March 22, 1933. J.V. and
Inell had two children, John Copeland and Sara Copeland Mason. J.V. began
preaching in Dasher, Georgia in 1928. He attended David Lipscomb College,
Harding College, & Peabody College. He served congregations at Bethel, Bell,
Florida between 1942 and 1946; Then at Ft. Pierce, Florida, 1946-1955,
Portsmouth, Va., 1955-1958; Bridgeport, Alabama, 1958-1963; West End, Atlanta,
1963-1978. Forest Park, Georgia, 1978-1990. He held
Gospel Meetings in Va., Fla., Ga., Pa., and Tenn. He also had thirteen years
experience in radio preaching, and taught school for fourteen years, 1932-46.

Copeland, Jr. was known and loved by many Christians around the world. I first
met J.V. while he preached at West End in Atlanta, but my best knowledge of him,
was when I worked under the oversight of the elders at Forest Park while in New
Zealand. Shortly after the death of Inell, he traveled to New Zealand and
visited with us, and preaching and evangelizing. J.V. and Inell were great
assets to the church.

J.V.
and Inelle Copeland are buried in the Dasher Cemetery, Dasher, Georgia. Dasher
is just south of Valdosta, and is the home of Georgia Christian School and
Raintree Village Children's Home. Heading south on I-75 take Exit 11 and go
east. Turn right on Carroll Ulmer Rd. Stay on Carroll Ulmer until you get to the
railroad tracks. While heading down the road the track should be to your left,
and you will see the cemetery on the right. Just past the cemetery to the left
is Johnston Rd. Raintree Village is located on Johnston Rd.
