Benjamin Cassel Deweese
1851 - 1924

Successful gospel preacher who preached in Illinois & Kentucky in the era after the Civil War. He spent time on the Executive Committee of the Foreign Christian Missionary Society and worked with the College of the Bible at the turn of the 20th Century.  J. W. McGarvey said, "Prof. Benj. C. Deweese had been already added to the Faculty in 1894, and had proved himself a most thorough and painstaking instructor. He was a graduate of the College in the class of ---- and had been for several years previous a Professor in Eureka College." The Autobiography of J.W. McGarvey  p.55 

Location Of The Grave Of B.C. Deweese

B.C. Deweese is buried at Lexington Cemetery, Lexington, Ky. Heading west from downtown on West Main Street enter the cemetery to the right. Continue through the iron gates on the main little road (Main Avenue). Just as you approach the "Sunken Garden" section you will want to turn right and head between it on the right and Section "8" on the left. At the end of "8" you will turn left. Section "11" will be on your right and "9" on your left. Park your car and look to the left. Deweese is not far down on the left in Section "9." Section 9, Lot 36 NE1/2 Be sure to see map.
