Billingsley Holmes and daughter
Polly Holmes, Christopher and Eliz-
abeth Wood Gist, and Levi McWhirter
and wife met in a grove of large
oaks directly to the west and organ-
ized a Bible School. This was the
beginning of the first Church of Christ

days, camp meetings were held the
first week in October.

Roan's Creek Church and Cemetery is located north of Lexington, Tennessee just into Carroll County. From Memphis take I-40 east, and from Nashville, take I-40 west to Exit #108, Hwy. 22 and head north. Just over the Carroll County Line you will come to Roans Creek Church Road. Turn left, the church building is at the top of the hill and the cemetery will be on the right.

Special Thanks: To Tom Childers for assisting me in bringing to light and helping me to locate and visit the old Roans Creek Church. I visited the old Carroll County church building in June, 2007 while involved in a series of meetings at Austin's Chapel Church of Christ in Scott's Hill, Tennessee. Many thanks to Tom and his inspiration to continue producing sites like this honoring those who have blazed the trail of godliness. His site has some of this information as well as further info on the church at Roans Creek.
