The Life of Fred Spivey

Fred Junior Spivey was born October 1, 1936 in Whitleyville, Tennessee. He was the son of Ernest Dallas Spivey (1908-1980) and Lurlie M Trisdale (1909-1997). He was married January 6, 1962 to Marlene V. Presley in Cannon, Tennessee. They had two daughters Kelly Renee and Kimberly.

He preached the gospel of Christ for more than 20 years. In the mid to late 1970s he preached seven years for the church of Christ in Monterey, Tennessee. In 1983 he began preaching for the Bloomington Springs church of Christ. At his death he was a member of the Fairview church of Christ in Cookeville, Tennessee.

He passed from this life at the age of seventy, on June 1, 2007. Burial followed at the Crest Ridge Cemetery in Cookeville.

Obituary

COOKEVILLE Funeral services for Fred J. Spivey, 70, of Cookeville will be held Monday, June 4, at 2 p.m. at Crest Lawn Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum. Family will receive friends today, Sunday, June 3, from 3-9 p.m. and Monday, June 4, from noon until time of services at the funeral home.
Mr. Spivey died Friday, June 1, 2007, at his residence.
He was born Oct. 1, 1936, in Jackson County to the late Ernest D. and Learlie Mae Trisdale Spivey.
Mr. Spivey was a member of Fairview Church of Christ in Cookeville. He worked as a Church of Christ minister for more than 20 years before his retirement.
His family includes his wife of 46 years, Marlene Presley Spivey of Cookeville; two daughters and a soninlaw, Kelly Renee Arnold of Cookeville and Kimberly Spivey Swartz
and husband Howard of Cookeville; his sister, Ruth Elise Spivey of Cookeville; his grandson, Zachery Tyler Arnold of Cookeville; his granddaughter, Shandi Marlene Welch of Cookeville; and several cousins.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by a special brotherinlaw, Phillip Presley, and a special nephew, Walter Presley Jr.

Directions To Grave

The Spivey family burial plot is in the Crest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Cookeville, Tennessee. The Funeral Home and cemetery are located on West Jackson Street. From I-40 take Exit 286 and head north on Hwy. 135. In about a mile turn left on W. Jackson St. The cemetery is on the left. Instead of entering the main entrance head up to Buffalo Valley Rd. and turn left. The cemetery will be on your left. Enter the first entrance and travel down the lane until you pass the funeral home on your left and head down and just past the mausoleum on your left, stop. The plot to your left in front of some bushes will be the Spivey plot. While in the cemetery note a photo below where it is pointed out where several gospel preachers are buried in the park.
